20/09/24 – LEVC proudly continues its support of the Magical Taxi Tour (MTT) as the charity celebrates 30 years. This annual event organised and run by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, sees over 100 taxis, with assistance from the British and French authorities, take children with life-threatening conditions on a magical trip to Disneyland Paris.
The journey begins with a send-off breakfast, after which more than 100 taxis depart from London in a convoy that often stretches up to five miles. The procession is escorted by the City of London Police through the UK, before being handed over to the French Gendarmerie Nationale, who guide the convoy on to Paris.
Since its inception in 1994, the MTT has organised 28 trips to Disneyland Paris, taking more than 6,000 children on this unforgettable journey. Over the 30-year period, black cab drivers have collectively covering approximately 19,000 miles and utilising a collective 3,000 taxis!
Chris Allen, Managing Director, LEVC, said: “Taxi drivers travel from across the UK to support the outstanding charitable work of the Magical Taxi Tour, providing a vital and necessary service to those families and children involved. As we celebrate its 30th anniversary, I’m delighted that LEVC’s iconic TX is playing such an important role in ensuring safe, accessible and comfortable transportation for all participants.”
Of the 100-vehicle fleet participating, 87 are LEVC’s zero-emission capable TX taxis, which have become a staple of London’s iconic taxi trade making up over 55% of the overall fleet. Since going on sale in 2018, LEVC’s TX has played a significant role in reducing global emissions, preventing over 240,000 tonnes of C02 from entering the atmosphere.
Kenneth Flemwell, a 30yr veteran of the Magical Taxi Tour, said: “It’s the thirtieth anniversary of the charity this year and I’ve been involved right from the start. It’s been a really good thing to do in life and drivers that have never done the trip before stand open-mouthed watching what goes on. It is a really, really good thing to be involved with and I am very proud to be part of this amazing taxi trade.”
Phil Davis, Founder, Magical Taxi Tour, said: “As we celebrate 30 years of the Magical Taxi Tour charity, I’m proud to look back on the families and children we have supported over the years. This vital charity work provides much-needed respite, delivering a weekend of fun and laughter at Disneyland Paris. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved - our sponsors, our drivers, and all those who make this incredible trip possible every year.”
