FROM LONDON TO GIBRALTAR: LEVC'S ICONIC BLACK CAB ARRIVES ON THE PENINSULA
Ansty, Coventry, March 26 2026: London EV Company (LEVC) is celebrating a new partnership with the Ministry of Transport in Gibraltar as it delivers 11 new zero-exhaust emission capable TX taxis to the region.
As a British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar shares strong cultural and historic ties with the UK. The arrival of the TX brings one of Britain’s most recognisable vehicles, the iconic black cab, to the territory, marking LEVC’s first official foray into the local taxi market.
The vehicles are finished in the traditional ‘Raven Black’ colourway and will directly support Gibraltar’s ambitions to reduce emissions while maintaining a high-quality, accessible transport service for residents and visitors alike. The arrival of the TX fleet was marked with a press day organised by the Gibraltar Ministry of Transport, attended by government representatives and LEVC leadership.
LEVC is currently the only manufacturer to offer a purpose-built, fully accessible, zero-exhaust-emission capable taxi. With more than 12,000 TX vehicles sold worldwide since launch and a history dating back to 1908, LEVC has established itself as a global leader in electrified urban mobility solutions.
Chris Allen, LEVC Managing Director, commented: “We are proud to see the TX arrive in Gibraltar, supporting the territory’s ambitions for cleaner urban mobility. The iconic black cab has long been recognised around the world for its practicality, accessibility and distinctive design, and the TX brings those same qualities together with advanced electric technology. This delivery represents an exciting milestone and we look forward to seeing the vehicles supporting drivers, residents and visitors across Gibraltar for many years to come.”
Minister for the Environment and Transport, John Cortes MP, said: “The arrival of these new LEVC TX taxis marks an important step forward in the modernisation of Gibraltar’s taxi fleet. As we continue working to improve air quality and reduce emissions, introducing zero-emission capable vehicles into everyday transport is a key part of our strategy. LEVC’s TX combines innovative technology with high standards of accessibility and passenger comfort, ensuring both residents and visitors benefit from a cleaner, more modern taxi service. We are pleased to welcome this new chapter for Gibraltar’s transport network.”
The Minister for Equality and Tourism, the Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, said: “These iconic British taxis will be one of the first, very visible expressions of Gibraltar’s identity to visitors to the Rock. Importantly, they are also fully inclusive and accessible for anyone with supported needs, ready to provide a warm Gibraltarian welcome to all.”
The Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo MP, said: “There are different elements to the British nature of Gibraltar. First of all is the life and soul of every Gibraltarian, which is as British as it can be. Then there is a geographic, jurisdictional and legal aspects to sovereignty, and then there are softer, cultural aspects. These taxis are a tangible demonstration of our British Gibraltarian values: hospitable, inclusive and environmentally responsible.”
The TX taxi is an inclusive vehicle for all, regardless of age or disability. The vehicle's inclusive design offers sector-leading accessibility, with flexible space for up to six passengers and an integrated ramp helping it accommodate a forward-facing wheelchair. Additional accessibility features include a hearing induction loop, braille switches, a step, swivel chair and high visibility handles.
Central to the LEVC TX is its revolutionary eCity powertrain, which provides a practical zero-exhaust emission capable solution for taxi drivers. With a pure electric range of up to 78 miles and a total range-extended capacity of 333 miles, TX is ideally suited to operating in and commuting to urban environments.
Thanks to this innovative, super-efficient powertrain, the TX has prevented more than 360 million kilograms of CO2 from entering the atmosphere and reduced NOx emissions of the London taxi fleet by 59%.
